Choosing a Dog Memorial Necklace from a Photo
A dog memorial necklace can hold a small reminder of a familiar face: the ears that lifted at your voice, a long muzzle, or the expression you knew so well. Choosing one starts with the details you want to remember and a photo that shows them. There is no need to choose immediately; you can set aside a few pictures and return to them when you feel ready.
This guide explains how to choose our personalized pet portrait necklace as a remembrance piece. It is the same photo-based necklace we make for pet owners, with an engraved line-art portrait on a pendant for a person to wear. It carries a portrait, not ashes.
Start with the face you recognize
A favorite photograph and the clearest photograph may be different. Place two or three pictures side by side and look for the features that make your dog recognizable. You might prefer a younger face, their later gray muzzle, or the alert look they had on walks.
- Face and eyes: choose a close view with the face in focus. Check that the eyes are visible rather than lost in deep shadow.
- Ears: include their full outline, especially if upright ears, a folded tip or long hanging ears are part of the look you remember.
- Muzzle and nose: look for a clear outline. A toy, blanket or another pet can hide the shape you want the portrait to show.
The photo is translated into a simple drawing for engraving, so fine details are simplified. A clear shape is more useful than a busy background. Our pet photo guide explains framing, lighting and uploading in more detail.
When your favorite picture is an older one
If a photo is blurry or cropped, first check the original phone file, a family member’s album or a saved backup. A screenshot or a copy sent through messaging may contain less detail than the original. For a printed picture, a clear scan is a useful starting point; keep the whole face visible.
Avoid strong filters or edits that change the features you remember. Enlarging a picture does not reveal details that were never captured. If your only photo has a hidden ear or a very small face, contact us before ordering to discuss the image. Keep a second photo available if you have one.
Choose how you would like to wear the remembrance
Think about the jewelry you already reach for. The available appearance options are gold tone, rose gold tone and silver tone. Choose a tone you enjoy wearing, and confirm materials, pendant dimensions and chain length with us if those details affect your choice.
You can select one to four pendants, with one pet photo for each. One pendant may be all you want for one dog. If you are remembering several companions, separate pendants let you choose a different face for each. Consider how many pendants you would feel comfortable wearing together.
Prepare your order, one pendant at a time
- Choose the tone and number of pendants on the product page.
- Upload one clear photo in each numbered pendant field.
- Add your dog’s name if it helps identify the photo. The name field is for identification; it does not request name engraving.
- Use the photo note to identify your dog if the image includes other pets.
- Review the photos, selected options and current order information before checkout. Ask us about any product or delivery detail you need to confirm.
Choosing for someone else
Ask whether they would welcome a wearable remembrance and which photo they would choose. They may prefer to select the picture themselves or keep a photograph at home instead. Our pet memorial gift guide offers ways to consider their preferences without rushing the decision.
